The passion for nature of an English family created, in 1867, a botanical garden near Ventimiglia for the acclimatization of plants from the most diverse regions of the world, taking advantage of the area's favorable location and particularly mild climate: the Hanbury Botanical Gardens. Thanks to the collaboration of botanists, agronomists, and landscape architects, mostly from abroad, a grandiose ensemble was created that is unparalleled in Europe, both botanically, with 5,800 species of ornamental, medicinal, and fruit plants, and in landscape design, thanks to the harmonious composition of buildings, ornamental elements, and cultivated terraces.
